The Amityville Horror starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder was originally filmed in 1979. There has been controversy surrounding the 'true' story that was told regarding the Lutz family and their experiences in the haunted house.
The house was previously owned by the DeFeo family who were murdered by their eldest son Butch DeFeo. Who said he heard voices that made him do it. Due to the infamy caused by the DeFeo and Lutz families in the same house, a book was written and Hollywood soon beckoned thus shooting the story into American Legend. During the investigation, Lorraine Warren, who's life was depicted in this years The Conjuring, assisted.
Now almost 40 years later, the Amityville nightmare has been brought to life once more in the form of the 'found footage' format which seems to be the way of most cheap horror movies these days since The Blair Witch Project and the ever popular Paranormal Activity movies.
