MOVIE TRIVIA: Everything You Need To Know About ... THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE

Was the highest grossing film of 2013 in North America. It was the first film to top the annual box office with a top-billed female lead since The Exorcist (1973), and the first with a woman as the sole protagonist and primary marketing focus since The Sound of Music (1965).

Jennifer Lawrence stated whilst filming in the arena she hit herself with the bow mid-sprint, and dove into a pool of jets leaving her partially deaf for 6 days.

Sam Claflin ate between two to three sugar cubes for each take filmed during Finnick's introduction scene until the scene was completed. He consumed the entire box of cubes.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jennifer Lawrence said that she, Josh Hutcherson, and Sam Claflin were very clumsy, saying Claflin fell at least once in every scene they filmed. Claflin agreed and said they could fill an entire gag reel with just him falling over.

When Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch are at a meal table discussing the need for allies in the Quarter Quell, a figure in the background stands with a sphere around his head that has a covering over the mouth. This is an apparent homage to the "avox" characters (mute because their tongue has been cut out by the capital) who appear in a minor but significant plot line in the books.

Kristen Bell, a huge fan of the book series, actively sought the role of Johanna Mason.

In early scenes, Katniss wears an unusual stylized woolen garment. This is apparently a reference to the "talent" for clothing design that Katniss adopts in the book. The Capital requires victors to pursue a "talent", since they don't need to work any more, and Katniss initially struggles since her best real talent is hunting. Then her designer Cinna steps in and supplies her with garments that she can claim to have designed herself.

Sam Claflin (Finnick) broke his finger during filming.

In the book it is revealed that an uprising began in district 8 the night that Katniss and Peeta arrived in the Capital for the victory tour. In the movie, while on the train returning from the Capital, Katniss sees fighting on a monitor and the feed is clearly labeled as coming from district 8.

All three of the songs Ed Sheeran submitted for the film's soundtrack were turned down.

At the bottom corner of a monitor that President Snow uses to watch if Katniss is to kill a tribute in the arena you can see the famous characters "A-113" which relates to the same reference in all Pixar films and associates.

Most of the dresses Elizabeth Banks wears in this movie are created by Sarah Burton for the famous Alexander McQueen brand.

A total of 48 minutes, including the entirety of the Arena sequences, were shot with IMAX cameras.

Certain Capitol scenes were filmed at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis hotel, one of the hotels where the annual pop-culture/science-fiction convention Dragon*con takes place.

Taylor Kitsch, Armie Hammer, Hunter Parrish, Grant Gustin, Luke Mitchell and Garrett Hedlund were considered for the role of Finnick Odair. The role eventually went to Sam Claflin

After Gary Ross declined to return to direct the movie, Alfonso CuarĂ³n, David Cronenberg, Bennett Miller, Tomas Alfredson, Cary Fukunaga, Duncan Jones and Joe Cornish were considered to replace him. In the end, the job was offered to Francis Lawrence.

Zoe Aggeliki and Mia Wasikowska were considered for the role of Johanna Mason before Jena Malone was cast.

Melissa Leo was considered to play Mags.
