STORY:
A young girl, Chun Li has a gift for playing the piano and martial arts, watches as her father is killed by a sinister crime boss, Bison. She grows up and becomes a concert pianist. In the meantime her father has spent the years providing information, under duress, to Bison, who has him trapped in a cell.

Chun Li gets a strange scroll written in ancient script. A translator helps her decipher it and she must follow the instructions and find Gen, leader of the Order of the Web. She then leaves everything behind to find Gen in Bangkok.

Eventually after an alley fight in which she bravely tries to rescue an innocent from the clutches of bad men, Gen finds her. He then trains her to become strong enough to find her father and face Bison.

REVIEW:
2 reasons to watch this movie, 1, if you're a fan of the Streetfighter video game and 2, if you're a fan of the beautiful Kristin Kreuk ( Smallville ).

The movie has its moments but just doesn't make the grade. I watched in awe as the petite Kristin Kreuk does some ass-kicking martial arts moves and one can see that she must've trained hard to fight like she does in the movie.

A somewhat out of place Chris Klein ( American Pie ) tries to play the bad ass cop, Nash, but this role really doesn't suit him. He comes across as too nicer guy for the tough guy role he played in this movie.

Michael Clark Duncan ( The Green Mile ) plays one of the villains and is well suited for his role.
All in all, not a bad effort. The story has plot holes which make the movie watchable only as a slow paced action movie. My admiration however goes out to Kristin Kreuk who really has tried to break her mould as set by her role in the Smallville series.

SCORE:
A whirling 5 popcorn out of 10
