ARTICLE

Every year new TV Shows start and while some thrive onto season after season, sadly there are others on the flip side of the coin that don't quite make the grade and like with some shows are cancelled after just one episode!!?!

Now I can say this without remorse but Americans decide what we watch and what we don't. This practise is totally unfair on the rest of us across the globe who may actually enjoy some of the cancelled shows but their rating are their rating and their networks need to make money. So this will continue until perhaps one day, hopefully not long from now, america could globalise their rating scores....! As if?! Anyway here's a list of a couple of shows which have been cancelled or renewed..... some bad news may lay ahead.

CANCELLED

A few weeks ago I posted about the new TV series, Zombieland, having just watched the first episode of the show. Many entertainment sites were excited to see this and quite a few write ups were done before the first episode aired. With excitement everyone sat down and watched..........and then after one single pilot episode, the show was cancelled. Why? Over 5000 Americans voiced their complaints about the show and it was cancelled immediately.

Co - writer and Executive Producer, Rhett Reese wrote on Twitter:

"Our Zombieland series will not be moving forward on Amazon. Sad for everyone involved. I'll never understand the vehement hate the pilot received from die-hard Zombieland fans. You guys successfully hated it out of existence. Anyway, we did our best, and we're very proud of our team."

Well there you have it!

Next on our list...... a Modern Family clone focusing on 2 gay men, their surrogate mother and their daily mishaps in The New Normal. The show garnered alot of fans for its content and the exploits of their friends and families etc. Sadly, the show was pulled and no longer will be airing.

"The New Normal," which focused on a pair of gay fathers-to-be (played by Andrew Rannells and Justin Bartha), had been the target of One Million Moms' wrath for some time.
"Millions of Americans strongly believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman," members of the group wrote on their website last year ahead of the show's fall premiere. "NBC's 'The New Normal' is attempting to desensitize America and our children. It is the opposite of how families are designed and created. You cannot recreate the biological wheel." Other series which are cancelled and interestingly enough, have gay or lesbian characters are:

- Smash
- Go On
- Happy Endings
- Partners
- Don't Trust The B__ in Apartment 23
- Southland
- 1600 Penn
- Emily Owens M.D.

RENEWED

I'm thankful for 2 shows being renewed above all else and in my mind signal a departure from the usual series types which we endure year after year. Both shows are dark and represent a certain type of maturity in the eyes of it's writers and producers and show no excuse for their brilliance. They represent a way forward and in no way condescend or patronise the viewer whatsoever

In no particular order, the first is Bates Motel, telling a prequel type story of Norman Bates, his overbearing mother and his wayward brother. All the while slowly leading up to the Norman Bates we know in Hitchcock's Psycho. The series is brilliantly done, with every episode having multiple plot lines and thrilling in it's drama, pulling you into the lives of the Bates family and making you care about these characters.

The next show to garner my respect has got to be the totally inspiring and dark, psychological thriller Hannibal. If you haven't watched this, I strongly recommend that you do. Whilst I will admit it's content is not for everyone, it is however very engaging and provides everything necessary for great entertainment.
