Not even J.R.R. Tolkien could've predicted the success of his novels nor the even greater monetary success the movies of these novels would bring. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy having grossed oner $1 billion collectively and The Hobbit making another $303 million worldwide. It was inevitable that this tale would get told across yet another trilogy even after the huge success of LOTR, audiences are still drawn back to the fantasy world of Middle Earth. Who else would direct it but none other than Peter Jackson, who originally brought LOTR to life.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hit theatres 13 December 2013 and the ending of this trilogy, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, to be released December 2014.
