With the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past ( 2014 ) it spell a 7th time that Hugh Jackman will have played the character Logan / Wolverine on a cinematic level. The role however will not see him as a lead character as in the other 5 movies he's appeared in as the self healing feral mutant but rather as a supporting actor.
From the first time Wolverine has our screens in X-Men ( 1999 ), he has been the focus of the story with everything seemingly revolving around him. In X2, we got to see a part of his creation, with his adamantium skeleton being put into him courtesy of Brian Cox's character, Stryker and in X-Men 3 the final to the trilogy, it is once again Wolverine who ultimately saves the day.
Then in 2009 we got to see Wolveine in his our movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine ( 2009 ) courtesy of Fox and director Gavin Hood with a star studded cast which included Liev Schrieber, Ryan Reynolds and Will I. Am. The Character then went on to appear in 2011's X-Men First Class but only in a brief but memorable capacity.
In 2013 we get to see Hugh Jackman return in The Wolverine, a second stand alone movie based on the title character. We all have our favorites but for me Wolverine is still one of the most awesome characters to have come out of the Marvel stable.
