Later this year in October 2013, South Africa is getting a new digital satellite television network called OpenView HD. 15 channels are currently on offer and will be a mix of both standard and high definition. All channels will be free-to-air but a satellite kit will be needed to watch the new channels. The kit and installation, which will also include a "decoder" will cost around R1900 and will be sold at all retail stores across the country.
Plans are to start out in South Africa and eventually spread across Africa. Good news to all South African couch potatoes, as we currently have DSTV and Top TV. With the addition of yet another digital network perhaps we, as customers will be the big winners as new bouquets and channels mean cheaper television and better programming overall.
