REVIEW
It's been quite a good year for the horror genre, we got an excellent version of Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead (2013) in the form of a remake, that outdid any and all expectation and we're presented with original material as in The Purge (2013) and the upcoming Insidious 2 (2013). The Conjuring (2013) is no exception to 2013's year of successful horrors.

The movie introduces us to the Warrens, a husband and wife 'ghostbusting' or paranormal investigator team. They have seen, battled and overcome just about everything regarding the supernatural world and even have created a ghostly museum of conduits and charms connected to the other world at their home.

Enter another family, the Perrons, who after moving into a new house with their 5 daughters soon discover their home to be haunted by a dead satanic witch and her son, Rory. After various occurrences they finally enlist the assistance of the Warrens who then try their best to chase away these spirits using their experience and tools to assist.

The movie is thoroughly entertaining, though the idea of a family being haunted after moving into a new house does seem rather reminiscent of The Amityville Horror, that is, however, where the similarity ends. Other familiar themes include the 'what's that in the basement' and 'the dog is dead'. amongst others. Look out for the possessed doll scene at the beginning that makes Chucky seem like a children's movie!

I would recommend this movie to avid horror fans and to others, you may be surprised and shocked by some of the scary scenes. I did find myself not willing to look at certain scenes at what was obviously a set up for a more sinister fright. All in all, The Conjuring (2013) is definitely worth the watch and price of admission. Go for it, give it a go...
