George Lucas sold his intellectual properties to Walt Disney for a nice $4 billion in October 2012 and subsequently also announced his retirement. This not only gave Disney an empire now also consisting of Pixar and Marvel but a home for Star Wars and the like. See the below video of the purchase.
Naturally, Disney's first decision with these Lucas properties would be to announce the subsequent plans to release another Star Wars Trilogy consisting of Star Wars VII, Star Wars VIII and Star Wars IX.
Good or bad, Star Wars will now continue with the release of Star Wars VII planned for 2015. 6 Months ago it was then announced that none other than JJ Abrams would direct Star Wars VII, after what was said to be a lengthy meeting with producer, Kathleen Kennedy and many previous denials from Abrams,
Abrams has proven he can bring in box office gold with Mission Impossible 3, Star Trek and Star Trek: Into Darkness. Perhaps Disney is hoping that Abrams can bring the same mass appeal he introduced to the Star Trek franchise , to Star Wars.
Ladies and gentlemen..... Lady Vader!
