REVIEW: CURSE OF CHUCKY (2013) ... A Doll And a Serial Killer All in One!!

 

 

REVIEW

It's been 9 years since the last Child's Play movie, Seed of Chucky. The possessed doll returns in what is a prequel to Bride of Chucky ( purely influenced by the fact that Jennifer Tilly appears as a person again before having her soul transferred to a female doll ).

 

Don Mancini, The original creator, writer and director of Child's Play returns to once again explore Chucky lore and take us further into the killer doll's mind and history. The premise of the story is that Chucky gets delivered "accidentally" to the home of a mother and daughter. When the mother dies mysteriously, her other daughter and family come to pay their respects but instead meet untimely deaths at the hands of our favourite horror monster.

 

 

 

I was honestly hoping this movie would open some new doors into the character and to some extent it does, however I'm not really sold on the Curse of Chucky. I loved the Child's Play movies having grown up in the 90's so I was already taken by the fact that there's a new movie and also Don Mancini still writes these movies but I do think that like so many of Chucky's 80's monster comrades ( Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, even Michael Myers ), we may need to see a new updated remake of the origin story and take it from there. We may also consider perhaps something animated like HBO's Spawn series which aired a few years ago, just to bring the character a new audience.

 

 

As a fan of Chucky you may well enjoy this adventure as you get to see Chucky once again do what he does best, swear and kill anyone in the immediate vicinity. For true Child's Play fans only...
