ENEMY PLOT
Adam Bell is a glum, disheveled history professor, who seems disinterested even in his beautiful girlfriend Mary. Watching a movie on the recommendation of a colleague, Adam spots his double, a bit-part actor named Anthony Clair, and decides to track him down. The identical men meet and their lives Morebecome bizarrely and irrevocably intertwined. Gyllenhaal is transfixing as both Adam and Anthony, provoking empathy as well as disapproval while embodying two distinct personas.

ENEMY REVIEW
Just watched this movie...twice. It is a tense, extremely well directed movie that is so far beyond thought-provoking that even after the second or perhaps third time you see it, you'll still be pondering and re-examining what you've seen. I tend to be an extremely "surface viewer" and seem to enjoy movies for what they appear to be, however, that said, I have to tell you that this movie is definitely for people who want to see more than just the obvious.

There are plenty of metaphors to mess you around but ultimately it is the one regarding the spiders shown through various scenes throughout the movie that almost seems to hold the movie together. What the spiders represent is totally up to you, as with the rest of the movie. The spiders though, in my opinion represent the various women in the lead characters life as it deals with his feelings towards the women in his life, his mother, his wife and his girlfriend as well as his commitment issues which are re-iterated throughout.

The movie covers so much in the almost far too short hour and twenty-six minutes that you mind is boggled by everything you've just seen. Ultimately, whatever your view is on this movie, yours is as good as anyone elses and the true meaning of the movie can be debated for a very long time. I must add this though, it is interesting that the men who are interacted with are positive and the women are shown as more dominant.

As for the end scene, the wife / spider ... the key in the envelope and so on, let me leave you with this, at the start of the movie, the history professor speaks about history repeating itself and the first time it is a tragedy whilst the second it is a farce.... the real tragedy is Adam whilst the farce is Anthony.

The movie had the exact same effect as with William Friedkin's Bug,and to a point the original Matrix movie. It will leave you with an endless amount of questions, as a good movie should, and were it not for the spider at the end, I may have just walked out thinking the movie was as straightforward as it seemed.

If you want something really shocking, deep and mind-boggling then this movie is truly for you as it peels away the layers of superficiality that we so commonly see in Hollywood and presents you with something astutely different and engaging.
