ENT3RTAIN ME REVIEWS ... BAD WORDS (2014) ... Bet You Didn't Know JASON BATEMAN Could Swear Like This!

Firstly, I love Jason Bateman, he has a dry comedic approach and such a likeable face that you always have to root for him no matter what character he plays and what movie he stars in, remember Paul (2011) and Horrible Bosses (2011).
Here we see Bateman as a man with almost zero redeeming qualities, arrogant, rude and living what seems to be a selfish existence. He has no friends and nothing going on in his life worth mentioning. That said, he enters a spelling bee competition, the Golden Quill, where he battles it out with other younger competitors to become a national spelling champ.
Now before you brush this aside, there's obviously more to this story than meets the eye and throughout the movie one ponders why he would do this to begin with, why would a growing man enter a spelling competition and go up against little school children. The mystery is only explained at the end of the movie and instantly adds more depth to one of the most shallowest human beings we've ever met.
On his adventure, he is met with a little boy who against Bateman's wishes, starts to grow on him and a strange unique friendship is born. He is also joined by an online reporter ( Kathryn Hahn ) who is coincidentally also his lover and she tries to get him to talk about his reasons for entering the competition.
The movie is filled with profanity and is equalled by hilarity. Jason Bateman also directs this movie and is a job well done all around. The movie doesn't break any new cinematic boundaries but it is extremely entertaining watching Bateman act totally out of character and away from the roles we've come to know him as.
BAD WORDS PLOT
Guy Trilby (Bateman), a 40-year-old middle school dropout discovers his biological father, who left his unwed mother upon learning of her pregnancy, runs the largest spelling bee in the USA, The Golden Quill.
Guy gets his revenge on the father he never met (Dr. William Bowman) by finding a loophole and attempting to win the Golden Quill spelling bee as an adult. Guy's original goal is to ensure his father never forgets his name.
Along the way, he befriends a female reporter and a young contestant whom he exposes to the wilder side of life, while learning a little about himself.
