STORY:
A group of scientists are brought together unwittingly by the American government. It is then revealed that an object travelling at an alarming speed is heading towards earth and they have 78 minutes till impact. The object however does not hit the earth but merely lands, in Central Park, New York. With the might of the US military surrounding the object, a lone figure emerges from it. Suddenly it is fired upon and an enormous robot appears. With a flash off light all electronics, cars and electricity is knocked out and the robot deactivates. The humanoid figure which was shot at, is then taken to a military facility where a surgeon removes the bullet lodged in it's body. The surgreon also discovers that the humanoid is covered in a biological cocoon of sorts. Once this is removed, a human being is uncovered. The human starts growing at an unnatural rate and within hours it is a full adult male.
The human can speak and is immediately interrogated by the Secrtary of State. She tries to confirm whether or not he or the object are part of an alien invasion. Later he escapes and one of the scientists, an astrobiologist, is called to assist a patient. The patient turns out to be the human. We then discover that, under the guidance of a group of civilisations, it has been determined that humanity must be destroyed as the earth is on the brink of destruction. Can humanity be save from impending doom or are we about to face armegeddon for our deeds?

REVIEW:

At its core, the movie has a good premise. The destructive and uncaring nature of humanity is put on trial and truth be told we are not taking care of each other or of our planet. Does humanity deserve saving? Honestly, if it were up to me the planet would be destroyed, perhaps humanity has passed the point of redemption.

The movie falls short in the fact that it does not convince the viewer or the "alien" in a strong enough way why humanity needs to be save. Alot of money was spent on this movie and the story leaves such a huge gap that no sane movie goer could actually believe that the reasons given, are enough to save us.

Keanu Reeves ( The Matrix ) and Jennifer Connelly ( A beautiful Mind, Hulk ) star in the sci - fi remake, but aren't enough to save the movie from, ironically, itself.
