Walking in the footsteps of such great actors as Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey comes a complete surprise as the announcement of the new Lex Luthor is to be none other than American actor, JESSE EISENBERG!
The actor most remembered for his role in The Social Network also starred in the horror / comedy Zombieland, the comedies 30 Minutes or Less and Why Stop Now. The announcement may be as overwhelming & controversial as the Ben Affleck / Batman or the Gal Gardot / Wonder Woman announcements and is probably sending shockwaves throughout fan boy communities around the world but ultimately it is what it is.
The second announcement is the casting of Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred which has gone to the brilliant Jeremy Irons replacing Michael Caines efforts in the Christopher Nolan trilogy.
This is what Entertainment Weekly says:
"The Oscar-nominated star of The Social Network has been cast as the Man of Steel’s ultimate foe in Warner Bros. upcoming Batman/Superman film, the studio announced today.
He’ll be joined by another actor with Academy Award history: Jeremy Irons (won Best Actor for 1990′s Reversal of Fortune) will co-star opposite Ben Affleck’s Batman as his butler and confidante Alfred Pennyworth in the upcoming Zack Snyder-directed film."
Now at this point we should remember that Zack Snyder has thrown the entire Superman / DC Universe into successful disarray! Everything we ever thought about Superman has been changed to Snyder's liking and whether you're a fan of Man of Steel or not, this is the dawn of a totally new envisioning of the Superman lore and the shockwaves will be felt throughout the DC cinematic universe. The casting news for the Man of Steel sequel seems to be very interesting indeed and all the controversy surrounding this project is only helping to boost the popularity of the next movie!
